Island Records was a record label that was founded by British record producers in Jamaica. Island Records was based in england for many years, but is now owned by Universal Music Group and is operateed in the United States through The Island Def Jam Music Group and in the UK through the Island Records Group (or simply Island records or Universal Island).The Company was founded in 1959 by Chris Blackwell (whom was one of the first to record Jamaican popular music that became known as Ska).
